Põhivärvil

Põhivärvil, often translated as primary color, refers to a set of colors that can be mixed together to create a range of other colors, but cannot be created by mixing other colors. The concept of primary colors is fundamental to color theory and has applications in art, design, and printing.

Historically, there have been different models of primary colors depending on the medium. In subtractive color models, such as those used in painting and printing, the traditional primaries are red, yellow, and blue. When these pigments are mixed, they absorb certain wavelengths of light and reflect others. For example, mixing yellow and blue paint results in green, as the yellow pigment absorbs blue light and the blue pigment absorbs red light, leaving green to be reflected. The subtractive primaries in printing are cyan, magenta, and yellow, often used with black (CMYK) to achieve a wider gamut of colors.

In additive color models, used for light sources like computer monitors and television screens, the primary colors are red, green, and blue (RGB). When these colored lights are combined, they create other colors by adding their wavelengths. For instance, mixing red and green light produces yellow light. Mixing all three additive primaries at full intensity results in white light.

The understanding of primary colors has evolved with scientific advancements, but the core idea remains that these fundamental hues form the basis for creating a spectrum of other colors. The specific choice of primaries can influence the range and vibrancy of colors that can be produced.
