Pääväylällä
Pääväylällä is a Finnish term used to describe the main navigable waterway or main route in traffic networks. In maritime contexts, pääväylä refers to the primary channel designated for through vessel traffic within a harbor, river, or coastal area. This channel is typically deeper and wider than side waterways, and it is kept clear of obstructions and regularly marked with navigational aids such as buoys and beacons. Charts and regulatory publications use pääväylä to indicate where ships should travel in order to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow. In practice, vessels are expected to navigate predominantly along the pääväylä and to exercise caution when operating near its edges, where sandbanks, shoals, or shallower waters may exist.
In road, rail, and general transport usage in Finland, pääväylä also denotes a main route—an arterial road
The term reflects a broader concept of designated, prioritized pathways within transport networks to promote safety
