Päästösegmenttejä

Päästösegmenttejä refers to emission segments or emission categories used in environmental accounting and reporting. These segments are defined to group similar types of emissions based on their source, type of pollutant, or sector of activity. The purpose of segmenting emissions is to facilitate analysis, monitoring, and the development of targeted reduction strategies.

Different jurisdictions and organizations may define these segments in slightly different ways, but common examples include segments for greenhouse gas emissions (like CO2, methane, nitrous oxide), air pollutants (like SOx, NOx, particulate matter), and wastewater discharges. Segments can also be organized by economic sector, such as energy production, industrial processes, transportation, agriculture, and waste management.

By breaking down total emissions into these segments, it becomes easier to identify the largest contributors to pollution and to implement policies and technologies that specifically address those areas. For instance, a government might set sector-specific targets for reducing emissions from the industrial sector, or focus on promoting electric vehicles to tackle emissions from transportation.
