Pysäyttämisvaraa, literally translated as stopping reserve, denotes a buffer of resources or time allocated to enable the safe and controlled cessation of an operation or process. The concept is used in safety engineering, risk management and planning to ensure that, in the event of a disturbance or hazard, an organization can bring systems to a secure halt without compromising people or equipment.
