Puskurilähteitä

Puskurilähteitä, often translated as buffer sources or buffer lamps, are a type of electrical device used to supply voltage to a component or circuit for a limited duration. Their primary function is to provide a temporary, stable power source when the main power supply fluctuates or is temporarily interrupted. This allows sensitive electronic equipment to continue operating or to shut down safely without data loss or damage.

These devices typically incorporate a rechargeable battery and associated control circuitry. When the main voltage is present and stable, the puskurilähde charges its internal battery and also passes power through to the connected load. If the input voltage drops below a certain threshold or is completely lost, the puskurilähde immediately switches to supplying power from its battery. This transition is usually seamless, meaning the connected equipment does not experience a power interruption.

Puskurilähteitä are commonly found in applications where continuous operation is critical. Examples include uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for computers and servers, backup power for security systems, and voltage stabilization in sensitive scientific instruments. The capacity and duration of a puskurilähde vary depending on its design and intended use, ranging from providing a few minutes of backup power to several hours. Their design aims to protect downstream equipment from the negative effects of power disturbances.
