Puolustajina
Puolustajina, also known as "defenders" in English, are a type of defensive midfielder in association football. They are positioned behind the central defenders and in front of the back four, typically in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation. The primary role of puolustajina is to protect the defense and prevent the opposing team from scoring. They are responsible for intercepting passes, tackling, and marking opponents. Puolustajina often possess strong tackling skills, good positional awareness, and the ability to read the game. They may also be involved in building up play from the back, using their passing abilities to distribute the ball to midfielders or forwards. In some formations, puolustajina may also play as wing-backs, providing width to the defense and contributing to attacks down the flanks. The term "puolustajina" is commonly used in Finnish football, reflecting the country's strong footballing culture and tradition.
