Puntinbreng

Puntinbreng refers to the process of scoring points in American football by successfully kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts. This can occur in two primary ways: a field goal or an extra point (PAT - Point After Touchdown).

A field goal is attempted during regular play when a team is within kicking range of the opponent's end zone. The ball is snapped to a holder, who places it on the ground for the placekicker to kick. If the kick successfully travels between the uprights and over the crossbar of the goalposts, three points are awarded to the kicking team.

An extra point, also known as a PAT, is a scoring opportunity that follows a touchdown. After scoring a touchdown, the team has the option to attempt a kick for one point or a two-point conversion. The PAT kick is taken from a set yard line, typically the 15-yard line in professional football. Similar to a field goal, if the kick is successful through the goalposts, one point is added to the score. The failure to make the kick results in no additional points.

The success of puntinbreng depends on the accuracy and leg strength of the placekicker, as well as the effectiveness of the snap and hold. Defensive teams attempt to block these kicks by rushing the kicker and the holder.
