Pumbaa

Pumbaa is a fictional character in Disney's The Lion King franchise. He is a friendly, humorous warthog who becomes an unlikely companion to Timon the meerkat and an ally to Simba, the film's protagonist, during a period of exile and self-discovery.

Characterized by an easygoing nature and blunt honesty, Pumbaa embraces a philosophy of living without worry, encapsulated in the "Hakuna Matata" motto he shares with Timon. He can be naïve at times, but he demonstrates loyalty, courage, and generosity when his friends are in trouble, and he contributes to the group’s resilience through songs, humor, and support.

In the original 1994 film, Pumbaa is voiced by Ernie Sabella. In the 2019 CGI remake, the character is voiced by Seth Rogen. Alongside Timon, Pumbaa serves as comic relief and helps introduce Simba to a carefree lifestyle, while also aiding him in his return to Pride Rock to confront Scar.

Pumbaa appears in sequels, the Broadway stage adaptation, and other media within the Lion King franchise. The character, together with Timon, has become emblematic of friendship and optimism, and the accompanying song "Hakuna Matata" has achieved widespread cultural recognition beyond the film itself.
