Pulpterapi

Pulpterapi, also known as root canal therapy or endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure aimed at saving a tooth that has become severely decayed or infected. The process involves removing the infected or damaged pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. This pulp chamber extends down into the root canal system within the tooth's roots.

The primary goal of pulpterapi is to alleviate pain and prevent the spread of infection, which could otherwise lead to tooth loss or more serious health issues. The procedure typically begins with the dentist administering local anesthesia to numb the area. An opening is then made in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp. The infected pulp is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth, including the root canals, is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Once cleaned, the empty space within the tooth is filled with a biocompatible material, usually a rubber-like substance called gutta-percha. This material is sealed in place to prevent further bacterial contamination. Finally, the opening in the tooth is closed with a temporary or permanent filling. Often, a dental crown is recommended to protect the treated tooth, as it can become more brittle after the procedure. Pulpterapi is a common and highly successful treatment for preserving natural teeth.
