Pucciniomycotina
Pucciniomycotina is a subphylum of Basidiomycota, one of the major lineages of club fungi. It includes a diversity of fungi that are predominantly plant parasites, most notably the rust fungi of the order Pucciniales. The group also contains several related lineages that are primarily biotrophic on living plant tissue. Rusts are economically important due to their impact on crops and forests.
Biology and life cycles: Members are largely obligate biotrophs, obtaining nutrients from living hosts and rarely
Ecology and impact: Rust fungi infect a wide range of plants, including major crops such as wheat
Taxonomy and phylogeny: Pucciniomycotina is one of three Basidiomycota subphyla, alongside Ustilaginomycotina and Agaricomycotina. The subphylum
