Präzisionsmessuhren, often referred to as dial indicators or test indicators, are precision measuring instruments used to accurately measure small linear distances or deviations from a true surface. They are commonly found in workshops, manufacturing facilities, and quality control environments. The core component of a Präzisionsmessuhr is a finely geared mechanism that translates the movement of a stylus or probe into the rotation of a needle on a calibrated dial.

The stylus, typically a hardened ball or a pointed tip, comes into contact with the surface being measured.
