Prudhoe is a town and civil parish in Northumberland, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Tyne, to the west of Newcastle upon Tyne. The town developed around the strategic river crossing and later expanded as a railway town. A focal point is Prudhoe Castle, a Norman fortress perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Tyne. Although largely ruined, the castle remains a major historic site and is protected as a scheduled monument. The present structure and its earthworks reflect centuries of fortification and habitation.
