The term "Prozenton" is derived from the German word *Prozent*, meaning "percent," reflecting the division of the octave into 100 equal steps. Each Prozenton corresponds to a frequency ratio of 2^(1/100), or approximately 1.00696 cents, where a cent is a logarithmic unit of musical pitch equal to 1/1200 of an octave. This level of precision is useful in compositions that require microtonal adjustments, such as those influenced by non-Western scales, experimental music, or just intonation.
