Provenzano

Provenzano is an Italian surname. It is generally considered habitational, derived from Provenza, the Italian name for Provence in southeastern France, or from a demonym for people from Provenza adapted into Italian as Provenzano. The name is most common in southern Italy, particularly Sicily, and among Italian diaspora communities in the Americas.

Bernardo Provenzano (1933–2016) was a high-profile Italian mafioso and longtime head of the Corleonesi faction of Cosa Nostra. A fugitive for decades, he was arrested in 2006 and later convicted on multiple charges related to murder and organized crime; he died in prison in 2016.

Anthony Provenzano, known as Tony Pro, was an Italian-American mobster associated with the Genovese crime family and with labor union racketeering during the mid-20th century.
