Protonun

Protonun is a Turkish noun phrase used to express possession, roughly translating to “the proton’s” or “of the proton.” It is formed by taking the noun proton and adding the third-person singular possessive suffix -un, producing protonun. The base noun proton is a borrowed term in Turkish, originating from the physics vocabulary and ultimately from the Greek protos meaning first. In Turkish texts, protonun frequently appears in scientific discussions about properties or relationships involving protons.

As a possessive construction, protonun is typically placed before the possessed noun. For example, protonun yükü means “the proton’s charge,” and protonun iç yapısı means “the proton’s internal structure.” The construction is productive in both singular and plural contexts; for instance, protonlar means “the protons,” and protonların elektronları means “the protons’ electrons” or “the electrons of the protons,” depending on the sentence structure. Turkish further marks possession on the possessed noun itself, as in yükü (its charge), iç yapısı, or elektronları, while the possessor remains protonun in the examples above.
