For example, if a country's unemployment rate falls from 10% to 8%, the percentage point change is 2 percentage points. This is calculated by simply subtracting the new percentage from the old percentage (10% - 8% = 2%). This indicates a direct and absolute change in the percentage value itself.

In contrast, a percentage change would describe the relative change. In the same example, the percentage change would be calculated as ((8% - 10%) / 10%) * 100%, which equals -20%. This means the unemployment rate decreased by 20% of its original value.
