Projektor

Projektor is a device that projects visual content onto a screen or surface by optical means. In digital cinema and multimedia, projectors render images by shining light through an image source or by modulating a light beam across a micro-mirror array. Common modern projectors are based on LCD (three LCD panels), DLP (digital micromirror device) or LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) technologies. The term projektor is used in several languages to denote a projector.

Light sources include lamp-based (mercury arc lamp or halogen), LED, and laser or laser-phosphor. LED and laser projectors typically offer longer lifespans and better color stability; lamp-based projectors require replacements.

Brightness is measured in ANSI lumens; contrast ratio is a key specification. Native resolutions include 1080p (1920x1080) and 4K (3840x2160).

Types range from home theater and business/presentation units to short-throw and ultra-short-throw models, as well as portable pico projectors. Short-throw projectors can be placed close to the screen, while ultra-short-throw systems can project large images from a near position, reducing shadows and obstructions.

Connectivity and features vary but commonly include inputs such as HDMI, VGA, USB, and sometimes wireless options, along with built-in speakers, lens shift, keystone correction, and optical zoom.

Applications span classrooms, conference rooms, cinemas, home theaters and event venues. Key considerations for selection include achievable image size, ambient light conditions, lamp or source maintenance, noise levels, color accuracy and system compatibility.
