Primäärivärvideks

Primäärivärvideks, often translated as primary colors, are a set of colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors. In the context of light, the primary colors are red, green, and blue (RGB). When these colors of light are mixed, they can produce a wide range of other colors, including white when all three are combined in equal intensity. This additive color system is fundamental to displays like televisions and computer monitors.

In the context of pigments and paints, the traditional primary colors are red, yellow, and blue (RYB). However, this set is less scientifically accurate than the subtractive primaries. The actual subtractive primary colors, used in printing and other applications where inks are mixed, are cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY). When these colors of pigment are mixed, they absorb certain wavelengths of light. Mixing cyan, magenta, and yellow together, in theory, produces black, though in practice a darker shade of gray or brown is often achieved, which is why black ink (K for Key) is usually added to the CMYK color model. The distinction between additive and subtractive primaries is crucial for understanding color mixing in different mediums.
