Predicação

Predicação refers to the act of attributing a property or characteristic to a subject. In logic and grammar, it involves forming a statement where a predicate is affirmed or denied of a subject. For example, in the sentence "The sky is blue," "the sky" is the subject and "is blue" is the predicate, attributing the property of blueness to the sky. This concept is fundamental to constructing meaningful propositions and understanding the relationships between entities and their attributes.

In philosophical contexts, predication is often discussed in relation to the theory of universals and particulars. It explores how properties (universals) can be predicated of individual things (particulars). For instance, the property of "redness" can be predicated of a specific apple. The nature of this predication – whether it implies identity, resemblance, or a distinct relation – has been a subject of debate throughout philosophical history.

Grammatically, predication is the core of a clause or sentence, consisting of a subject and a predicate. The predicate typically contains the verb and conveys information about the subject.
