PreJurassic

Pre-Jurassic refers to the geological time period that preceded the Jurassic Period. This era encompasses the Permian and Triassic Periods, collectively known as the Permian-Triassic and Triassic Periods. The Permian Period, spanning from approximately 299 to 252 million years ago, marked the end of the Paleozoic Era and witnessed the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea. It was characterized by diverse terrestrial life, including early reptiles and synapsids, and significant fluctuations in sea levels. The end of the Permian was marked by the most severe mass extinction event in Earth's history, the Permian-Triassic extinction event, which dramatically reshaped life on the planet.

Following the Permian was the Triassic Period, from about 252 to 201 million years ago. This period represents the beginning of the Mesozoic Era. Life began to recover from the extinction, with the diversification of new groups of reptiles, including the earliest dinosaurs and pterosaurs. Mammals also evolved during the Triassic, originating from synapsid ancestors. The Triassic landscape was dominated by Pangaea, with vast arid interiors. The climate was generally warm and dry. The Triassic Period concluded with another, less severe, extinction event, paving the way for the flourishing of dinosaurs in the subsequent Jurassic Period. Therefore, the pre-Jurassic encompasses the crucial evolutionary developments and geological transformations that set the stage for the Age of Reptiles.
