Pratumnak
Pratumnak is a traditional Thai festival celebrated primarily in the northern regions of the country, particularly in Chiang Mai and surrounding provinces. The name "Pratumnak" is derived from the Thai word "pratumnak," which translates to "the first day of the new year" in the lunar calendar, marking the beginning of the Thai New Year in the old solar calendar system. This festival is also closely associated with the Buddhist New Year, known as Songkran, though Pratumnak predates it and retains distinct cultural elements.
