Potranskrypcyjna refers to events or processes that occur after transcription in molecular biology. Transcription is the process by which a DNA sequence is copied into an RNA molecule. Following transcription, the RNA molecule, known as pre-mRNA in eukaryotes, undergoes several modifications to become a mature messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule that can be translated into protein. These post-transcriptional modifications are crucial for the stability, transport, and proper translation of the mRNA.

Key post-transcriptional events include capping, splicing, and polyadenylation. Capping involves the addition of a modified guanine nucleotide to the 5' end of the pre-mRNA. This cap protects the mRNA from degradation and is important for its recognition by the translation machinery. Splicing removes non-coding regions called introns from the pre-mRNA and joins the coding regions, exons, together. This process allows for the generation of a continuous coding sequence. Polyadenylation is the addition of a tail of adenine nucleotides, called a poly-A tail, to the 3' end of the pre-mRNA. The poly-A tail enhances mRNA stability and facilitates its export from the nucleus to the cytoplasm.

In addition to these core modifications, other post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms can influence gene expression. These include RNA editing, which alters the nucleotide sequence of the RNA, and various forms of RNA interference, which can lead to the degradation of specific mRNA molecules or inhibit their translation.
