Potentiaalieroista refers to the concept of potential difference, a fundamental principle in physics and electrical engineering. It quantifies the difference in electric potential energy per unit charge between two points in an electric field. This difference is what drives the flow of electric current. Imagine a hill; the height difference between the top and the bottom is analogous to potential difference. A positive charge will naturally move from an area of higher potential to an area of lower potential, just as a ball rolls downhill.

The unit of potential difference is the volt (V), named after Alessandro Volta. One volt means that one joule of work is done when one coulomb of charge moves between the two points. In direct current (DC) circuits, potential difference is often referred to as voltage. In alternating current (AC) circuits, the voltage can change over time. Batteries and power supplies are sources of potential difference, creating and maintaining this electric "pressure" that allows devices to operate.
