Potatau
Potatau is a term that can refer to a few different things. Most notably, it is the name of the first Maori king, Potatau Te Wherowhero. He was a prominent warrior and leader of the Waikato iwi (tribe) in the mid-19th century. Following the New Zealand Wars, he was proclaimed king in 1858 with the aim of uniting Maori and asserting their autonomy. His reign, though short-lived, laid the foundation for the ongoing Maori monarchy.
