Postiktální

Postiktální refers to the period immediately following a seizure. This phase is characterized by a range of neurological and physical symptoms that can vary in intensity and duration depending on the type and severity of the seizure. Common postiktální symptoms include confusion, disorientation, drowsiness, headache, and muscle weakness. Individuals may experience difficulty speaking, vision disturbances, or even temporary paralysis (Todd's paralysis) affecting a specific limb or side of the body. Emotional changes such as irritability, sadness, or agitation can also occur. The duration of the postiktální state can range from minutes to hours, and in some cases, it may be prolonged. Recovery from the postiktální phase is typically gradual, with symptoms slowly resolving as brain function returns to normal. Medical evaluation is important to determine the cause of seizures and to manage postiktální symptoms.
