Postbreakage

Postbreakage is a term used to describe the condition of an object after it has fractured or broken. Postbreakage analysis seeks to determine the cause of failure, quantify damage, and guide decisions about repair, replacement, or safe operation. Applications vary by domain: structural components such as beams and joints are evaluated for safety and life extension; machinery and consumer products are assessed for salvageability and warranty issues; in electronics, broken circuits or connectors may require isolation and troubleshooting, with attention to preventing secondary damage.

Practical goals of postbreakage work include ensuring public safety, informing maintenance planning, and improving design to prevent recurrence.
