Portfóliómérlegek, often translated as portfolio balancing or portfolio rebalancing, is a fundamental investment strategy focused on maintaining a desired asset allocation within an investment portfolio. Over time, market fluctuations can cause the proportion of different assets in a portfolio to drift away from their original targets. For example, if stocks perform exceptionally well, they might grow to represent a larger percentage of the portfolio than initially intended, increasing overall risk. Conversely, underperforming assets may shrink in proportion, reducing potential returns.

Portfolio balancing addresses this by periodically adjusting the portfolio back to its target allocation. This typically involves selling some of the overperforming assets and using the proceeds to buy more of the underperforming assets. The goal is not necessarily to time the market or maximize short-term gains, but rather to manage risk and ensure the portfolio remains aligned with the investor's long-term financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon.

The frequency of rebalancing can vary. Some investors rebalance on a fixed schedule, such as quarterly or annually. Others rebalance when the asset allocation deviates from its target by a predetermined percentage, known as a tolerance band. While rebalancing can incur transaction costs and potentially taxes, it is a disciplined approach that helps investors avoid excessive risk-taking and maintain a consistent investment strategy.
