Porausasema

Porausasema is a Finnish term referring to a location or facility where drilling operations take place. It is used in contexts such as mineral exploration, groundwater development, geothermal energy, and the extraction of fossil fuels. A porausasema can be on land (onshore) or offshore, and arrangements range from temporary rigs set up for a single campaign to semi-permanent installations that remain in place for longer periods.

A typical porausasema includes the drilling rig or drilling unit, a derrick or mast, a drill string with a bit, and casing and cementing equipment. It also comprises a drilling mud circulation system, power supply, and support infrastructure. Safety and control systems, accommodation for crew, storage for equipment and drill cuttings, and facilities for waste handling and spill response are normally part of the installation.

Operations at a porausasema begin with site selection and permitting, followed by setup and drilling to the target depth. After reaching depth, the well may be cased and cemented, and various evaluations are performed, such as sampling of core material and geological logging. The well may then be completed for production, temporarily left for testing, or abandoned. Once work is finished, the site is decommissioned and restored according to applicable regulations.
