Poolaasta

Poolaasta is a term used in Estonian to denote a period of six months within a calendar year. It is formed from pool- meaning half and aasta meaning year, and it is commonly used in financial, statistical, and administrative contexts.

In practice, poolaasta refers to either the first half of the year (January to June) or the second half (July to December), with the exact months specified by the surrounding context. The concept is often employed in budgeting, financial reporting, and performance reviews to present half-year results or plans. For example, poolaasta tulu means revenue for the half-year, and poolaasta kulud refers to costs incurred during that period. Similarly, poolaasta aruanded are half-year reports prepared to summarize activities and outcomes for the respective six-month interval.

Beyond finance, poolaasta can appear in statistics, planning, and academic administration, where researchers or institutions analyze data or activities over a six-month span. In educational settings, the term may be used to describe the two halves of an academic year, although many schools also use terms like semester or term to distinguish portions of the year.
