Pool billiards, commonly referred to as pool, is a cue sport played on a cloth-covered table with six pockets. The game involves using a cue stick to strike a cue ball, which then strikes other balls on the table, with the objective of pocketing them according to specific rules. There are numerous variations of pool, each with its own set of objectives and rules.

The most prevalent forms include eight-ball, nine-ball, and straight pool. In eight-ball, players are assigned either solid-colored balls or striped balls, and the objective is to pocket all of their assigned balls before legally pocketing the eight-ball. Nine-ball requires players to pocket the balls in numerical order, from one to nine, with the game ending when the nine-ball is legally pocketed. Straight pool, also known as 14.1 continuous, involves pocketing balls and scoring points, with the first player to reach a predetermined score winning.

Pool is played with a set of numbered balls, typically 15 object balls and one cue ball. The object balls are numbered from one to 15. The game requires a combination of skill, strategy, and precision. Players must master various shots, including the straight shot, the bank shot, and the jump shot, to effectively maneuver the balls and achieve their objectives. Beyond recreational play, pool is also a competitive sport with professional tournaments and leagues held worldwide.
