Ponta
Ponta is a Romanian surname most prominently associated with Victor Ponta (born 1973), a Romanian economist and politician who served as Prime Minister of Romania from 2012 to 2015. He studied economics at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (ASE) and later pursued a career in public service and politics. Ponta led a government formed after the 2012 parliamentary elections and pursued macroeconomic stabilization measures and ongoing European integration efforts. His tenure ended with his resignation in November 2015 amid political turmoil and widespread street protests following the Colectiv nightclub fire. An interim government led by Dacian Cioloș succeeded him.
