The structure of polysynthetic languages often contrasts sharply with isolating languages, which use separate words for grammatical functions, and agglutinative languages, which also use affixes but typically with one affix carrying a single grammatical meaning. In polysynthetic languages, a single affix can sometimes convey multiple grammatical features simultaneously.
