Polyploidlik is a term used to describe the condition of having more than two complete sets of chromosomes. In diploid organisms, which are the most common, there are two sets of chromosomes, one inherited from each parent. Polyploid organisms, however, possess three, four, or even more sets of chromosomes. This phenomenon is particularly prevalent in plants, where it has played a significant role in evolution and crop improvement. For instance, many staple crops like wheat, corn, and potatoes are polyploids.
