Polyetüülentereftalaat, commonly abbreviated as PET or PETE, is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family. It is a clear, strong, and lightweight plastic known for its excellent barrier properties against gases and moisture. PET is widely used in packaging, particularly for beverage bottles, food containers, and synthetic fibers.

The production of PET involves the polymerization of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. This process results in long molecular chains that give the material its desirable physical and chemical characteristics. PET is recyclable, and its closed-loop recycling process allows it to be transformed back into new PET products, thus reducing waste and conserving resources.
