It lies in the southern temperate ocean and comprises several islands, the largest of which are Polvea Major, Veira, and Lomar, along with numerous smaller islets. The terrain ranges from volcanic highlands to mangrove-lined coasts, with a central belt of green hills and sheltered inlets along the shore. The climate is maritime, with mild temperatures throughout the year and abundant rainfall, tempered by prevailing westerly winds.
