Pollingbased

Pollingbased refers to a method of communication or data retrieval where a central system repeatedly checks a peripheral device or remote system for status updates or new data. This is in contrast to event-driven systems, where the peripheral or remote system notifies the central system when it has something to report.

In a pollingbased system, the central entity sends a request to the peripheral device at regular intervals. The peripheral device then responds, indicating whether it has new information or if it is ready to receive data. If there is data, the central entity retrieves it. If not, the central entity waits for the next polling interval.

This approach is simple to implement and understand, making it suitable for many applications where real-time responsiveness is not critical or where the cost of maintaining persistent connections is high. Examples include simple sensor readings, status checks of devices, or retrieving messages from a queue that is not expected to be constantly busy.

However, pollingbased systems can be inefficient. If the polling interval is too short, the central system may spend a lot of time checking for data that is not yet available, leading to wasted resources and increased network traffic. Conversely, if the interval is too long, there can be significant latency in detecting changes or receiving important data. The optimal polling frequency is a trade-off that depends on the specific application's requirements.
