Pollare

Pollare is a term that appears in various Romance-language contexts and can refer to actions involving poles or pruning. In Italian, pollare (to pollar) is a verb used in regional or historical texts to describe the act of placing or fixing poles, for example to mark a boundary, to support a temporary structure, or to stake plants. The noun form pollare is not common in standard modern Italian but may be found in dialectal usage.

In horticulture and forestry, pollare is sometimes used to describe pollarding, a pruning technique that deliberately cuts back trees or shrubs to promote a dense crown and new growth. In this sense, pollare is connected to the noun pollard and the process of maintaining coppice wood.
