Polimérgyártás refers to the industrial processes involved in the creation of polymers, which are large molecules composed of repeating subunits. These processes are fundamental to the production of plastics, synthetic fibers, elastomers, and many other essential materials used in modern society.

The primary method for producing polymers is polymerization, a chemical reaction where monomers, small molecules, are linked together to form long chains or networks. There are several key types of polymerization. Addition polymerization involves monomers adding to one another without the loss of any atoms, often initiated by catalysts. Chain-growth polymerization, a subset of addition polymerization, proceeds through a chain reaction mechanism. Condensation polymerization, on the other hand, involves the reaction of monomers with the elimination of a small molecule, such as water or methanol. Step-growth polymerization is another term used for condensation polymerization, where polymer chains grow incrementally through sequential reactions of monomers and oligomers.

These processes typically occur in reactors under controlled conditions of temperature, pressure, and catalyst concentration. Post-polymerization processing, such as extrusion, molding, and fiber spinning, is then employed to shape the raw polymer into usable products.
