Podocnemis
Podocnemis is a genus of turtles in the family Podocnemididae. These turtles are commonly known as South American river turtles or side-necked turtles. They are found in freshwater environments across South America, primarily in the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The genus currently contains five recognized species: Podocnemis expansa, Podocnemis unifilis, Podocnemis sextuberculata, Podocnemis lewyana, and Podocnemis erythrocephala.
