PoSV

PoSV stands for Proof of Stake Velocity. It is a consensus mechanism used in some blockchain networks. Unlike Proof of Work (PoW) which relies on computational power, PoSV considers both the amount of cryptocurrency a user holds and the duration for which they have held it. This duration is often referred to as "velocity" or "stake age."

The core idea behind PoSV is to incentivize long-term holding of a cryptocurrency. In a PoSV system, users who hold their coins for longer periods are generally given a higher probability of being selected to validate new blocks and earn transaction fees or newly minted coins. This is intended to promote network stability and reduce the concentration of power among those who can rapidly acquire and move large amounts of currency.

Some systems might calculate velocity based on a continuous accumulation of stake age, while others might have periodic resets or decay mechanisms. The goal is generally to create a more energy-efficient consensus model compared to PoW, while also discouraging short-term speculation and encouraging a more dedicated user base.
