Plöntutrefjum, also known as plant nutrients, are essential substances that plants require for growth, development, and reproduction. These nutrients are typically categorized into two main groups: macronutrients and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are required in larger quantities and include carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur. Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are obtained from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight through the process of photosynthesis. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are primarily absorbed by plants from the soil, while calcium, magnesium, and sulfur are also taken up from the soil but can also be absorbed from the air or water.

Micronutrients, on the other hand, are required in smaller quantities and include iron, manganese, zinc, copper, molybdenum, chlorine, and boron. These elements are often less abundant in the soil and are crucial for various physiological processes in plants, such as enzyme activation and electron transport.

Plants can obtain nutrients through their roots, which absorb water and dissolved minerals from the soil. The roots also play a role in anchoring the plant and providing structural support. Additionally, some plants can absorb nutrients directly from the air or water through specialized structures, such as leaves or stems.

Proper nutrient management is crucial for maintaining healthy plant growth and productivity. This involves assessing soil nutrient levels, applying appropriate fertilizers, and monitoring plant health to ensure optimal nutrient uptake and utilization. Inadequate or excessive nutrient supply can lead to nutrient deficiencies or toxicities, respectively, which can negatively impact plant growth and yield.
