Pluviométricas refer to the measurement and study of rainfall, encompassing the data collected by stations, networks, and devices that quantify precipitation over time. The term is often used to describe instruments or systems that record rainfall amounts, distribution, and intensity, and is essential in meteorology, hydrology, climatology, agriculture, and urban planning. In many contexts, pluviométricas appears as an adjective describing instruments or networks, such as estacióes pluviométricas or redes pluviométricas.

Instruments and methods: The primary instrument is the pluviômetro (rain gauge), which collects rainwater to determine rainfall depth, typically in millimeters. Other devices include tipping-bucket rain gauges, which automatically log fixed-volume increments, and weighing gauges, which measure rainfall by mass. Measurements are often complemented by remote sensing methods, such as weather radar and satellite-based rainfall products, which help cover large or inaccessible areas and provide higher temporal resolution.

Units and data: Rainfall is typically expressed as depth (millimeters) over a given period, with intensity often shown in millimeters per hour. Data can be daily totals, hourly values, or shorter intervals, and are compiled into networks for analysis and modelling. Standards and quality control follow guidelines from meteorological authorities to ensure consistency, including siting, exposure to wind, and regular maintenance.
