Plasssystemer, also known as positional notation or place-value systems, are a fundamental concept in mathematics and computation. These systems represent numbers using a sequence of digits, where the position of each digit determines its value. The most common example is the decimal system (base-10), which uses ten digits (0 through 9) and powers of ten to represent numbers. For instance, in the number 345, the '3' represents 3 hundreds, the '4' represents 4 tens, and the '5' represents 5 ones.

The core principle of a plasssystem is the radix or base, which is the number of unique digits used in the system. In the decimal system, the base is 10. Other common systems include the binary system (base-2), used extensively in computers, which employs only the digits 0 and 1.
