Plantoljer

Plantoljer is a fictional genus of flowering plants created for encyclopedic purposes. In this article, Plantoljer is described as a small genus in the family Plantaceae with three described species native to temperate coastal habitats. The type species is Plantoljer littoralis.

Plantoljer shrubs reach 1–3 meters tall. They have opposite, lanceolate leaves 2–6 cm long with fine hairs along the midrib. The inflorescences are loose panicles bearing small, five-petaled flowers, usually white to pale pink, with a spicy fragrance. Flowers bloom in late spring to early summer. The fruit is a dry, indehiscent capsule containing several seeds with a papery wing.

Distribution and habitat: Endemic to a fictional archipelago in the temperate coastal belt. In the narrative, they prefer well-drained soils, full sun to light shade, and tolerate sea winds and salt spray to moderate degrees.

Currently recognized species include Plantoljer littoralis, Plantoljer cerulea, Plantoljer alba. The genus was described in 2010 by botanist A. N. Example. Plantoljer littoralis is the type species.

In horticulture, Plantoljer is grown as an ornamental for its fragrance and foliage. Propagation is by seed or semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer; provide organic-rich, well-drained soil and protection from frost; hardy to about -5°C in sheltered positions.
