Planimetrikus

Planimetrikus is a term that refers to a type of mapping or surveying where the primary focus is on the horizontal positions of features, essentially creating a two-dimensional representation of the Earth's surface. This contrasts with topographic mapping, which also includes information about elevation and relief. Planimetric maps depict man-made features like roads, buildings, and property boundaries, as well as natural features such as rivers, lakes, and vegetation, all projected onto a horizontal plane.

The process of creating planimetric data typically involves techniques like photogrammetry, where aerial or satellite imagery is used to derive ground coordinates. Ground surveys using instruments such as total stations or GPS receivers also contribute to establishing accurate horizontal positions. The resulting planimetric data is fundamental for a wide range of applications, including urban planning, land management, engineering projects, and general cartography. It provides the foundational layer upon which other spatial information, such as elevations or thematic data, can be added. While planimetric maps show the location and extent of features, they do not convey their height or the steepness of the terrain.
