Planetarian

Planetarian, also known as Planetarian: The Reverberation of a Star's Dream, is a Japanese visual novel and media franchise developed by Key. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been decimated by a devastating war. The remnants of civilization live in underground bunkers, and the surface is a desolate wasteland.

The visual novel follows the story of Yumemi Hoshino, a service robot who believes she is still working at a planetarium. She encounters a scavenger named Junker, who is exploring the ruins of a city. Despite the bleak reality, Yumemi remains optimistic and dedicated to her mission of sharing the wonders of the stars with Junker. Through their interactions, the narrative explores themes of memory, hope, and the meaning of existence in a dying world.

Planetarian has been adapted into several forms, including a manga series and an anime film. The anime film, released in 2016, adapts the main story of the visual novel. A subsequent OVA series, subtitled "Dream of the Little Planet," serves as a prequel, detailing Yumemi's final days before the apocalypse. The franchise is known for its emotional storytelling, poignant character development, and the melancholic yet hopeful atmosphere it evokes.
