Plaiame

Plaiame is a commune in the Haute-Marne department in Grand Est region in northeastern France.

Located at an elevation of 290 meters above sea level, Plaiame is situated approximately 45 kilometers southwest of the city of Chaumont, which serves as the prefecture of the Haute-Marne department. As of the 2019 census, the commune has a population of approximately 171 residents.

The area is primarily characterized by its rural landscape, with rolling hills and fields that cover the majority of the terrain. The topography is relatively flat, with a slight elevation in the northern part of the commune.

Economically, the community is primarily driven by agriculture, with a mix of arable land and livestock farming. The village is relatively small and peaceful, with a few scattered homes and farms. Since the 1990s, there has been a shift towards dependency on tourism and external labor to sustain the local economy. A portion of the village includes homes from the 19th century, with some maintained for preservation and others removed due to disrepair.

Since its early history, Plaiame has been subject to various territorial reorganizations and has remained under the administration of the Grand Est region following French regional reorganization in 2016.

Key infrastructure in the commune includes a Post, two neighborhood stores, a sports field, a primary school, a small park, and other public services. A local community center has activities related to external services and meetings for local residents.
