Pivotpunkter

Pivotpunkter are a set of technical analysis levels derived from the high, low and close of a previous trading period. Traders use these levels to estimate potential support and resistance for the current session and to gauge the likely direction of price movement around key turning points.

The standard pivot point method computes a central pivot point P from the prior period as P = (H + L + C) / 3. From P, a series of support and resistance levels are derived: R1 = 2P − L, S1 = 2P − H, R2 = P + (H − L), S2 = P − (H − L), R3 = H + 2(P − L), and S3 = L − 2(H − P). These levels are plotted for the current trading day and updated as new high, low and close data become available.

There are several variants of pivot points that traders may encounter. Fibonacci pivot points use the same base P but apply Fibonacci-derived multipliers to generate additional R and S levels. Other popular families include Woodie, Camarilla and DeMark pivot points, each applying different formulas to derive multiple support and resistance levels from H, L and C. While the exact numbers vary by method, the core idea remains: pivotpunkter provide a structured framework to identify potential turning points and price targets during a trading session.

Usage and interpretation are context-dependent. A price trading above P or above R1 can indicate bullish momentum, while moves below S1 or beyond S3 may signal bearish pressure or a breakout.
