Pitagoraszi

Pitagoraszi is an adjective used in Hungarian and other languages to describe things connected with Pythagoras of Samos or with the Pythagorean tradition. The form is derived from the name Pitágorasz (Pythagoras) and the Hungarian adjectival suffix -i. In Hungarian, pitagoraszi can modify nouns in mathematics, philosophy, or music to indicate Pythagorean origins or characteristics.

In mathematics, pitagoraszi is most commonly seen in phrases such as pitagoraszi tétel for the Pythagorean theorem and pitagoraszi háromszög for a right triangle. In music theory, pitagoraszi hangolás refers to the Pythagorean tuning system, a method of tuning pitches based on simple whole-number ratios. In philosophy and historiography, pitagoraszi is used to denote doctrines associated with the Pythagorean school, including ideas about numbers, harmony, and ethical teachings.

Historically, Pythagoras and his followers, active in the 6th century BCE, are credited with linking mathematics, geometry, and music, and with developing an educational and religious community around these ideas. The adjective pitagoraszi thus appears in scholarly and educational texts to connect modern discussions with these traditional roots, without implying a single, uniform doctrine across all uses.
