An unbiased estimator is one whose expected value is equal to the true parameter value. An efficient estimator has the smallest possible variance among all unbiased estimators. A consistent estimator converges to the true parameter value as the sample size increases. Common examples of point estimators include the sample mean, sample variance, and maximum likelihood estimators. The choice of an appropriate point estimator depends on the specific problem and the assumptions made about the underlying population distribution.
